46th Rose Festival starts amid pump and show

Chandigarh, February 23:- The much awaited 46th Rose Festival started here at Rose Garden amid pump and show. The three days festival has been formally inaugurated by Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, Governor of Punjab & Administrator, UT, Chandigarh accompanied by his wife Smt. Alka Singh in presence of Guest of Honour of the function Smt. Kirron Kher, Member Parliament, UT, Chandigarh, Sh. Davesh Moudgil, Mayor of Chandigarh, Sh. Jitender Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh.

Sh. Gurpreet Singh Dhillon, Senior Deputy Mayor, Sh. Vinod Kumar Aggarwal, Deputy Mayor, Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, area councilor, Dr. Saurabh Mishra, IAS and Sh. Anil Kumar Garg, Additional Commissioners, Sh. Tejdeep Singh Saini, Joint Commissioner, Sh. Manoj Bansal, Chief Engineer, Sh. N.P. Sharma, S.E. B&R, Sh. Sanjay Arora, S.E. PH, other councilors, officers, prominent persons of Chandigarh were present during the inaugural ceremony.

While addressing the gathering, the Administrator said that this type of Rose festival I have not heard about organized any state in the country. He appreciated all the staff of MCC for making this festival a big success. He suggested that food court must be their inside the Rose Garden during the festival and we will take up this issue with the Punjab & Haryana High Court, which has banned food courts inside the Garden. He also asked the MCC and Administration officers to chalk out a plan to make it International festival. He said that famous bands throughout the country may also be called next time so that the public can also enjoy the legendary style of country’s famous bands.

He said that Chandigarh is a neat and clean city and nature’s lovers live in this city. He appealed to the public for not littering in the garden during the Rose Festival.

Mrs. Kirron Kher appreciated the efforts done by all the MC employees and officers to make this festival a grand success. She said that people from all walks of life can enjoy here with the provisions and competitions of all age groups would be organized such as Rose Prince & Princess, Mr. Rose & Ms. Rose and Rose King and Rose Queen for senior citizens.

She said that the green cover of Chandigarh has increased with the time by developing green belts and parks. She said that this is the only city where so many festivals are being celebrated and we can enjoy these together. She said that stay with the spirit of Chandigarh that always was there. Conserve the spirit of Chandigarh must be let us live Chandigarh the way it was designed, she added.

Sh. Davesh Moudgil, the Mayor said that the to make the Rose Festival more attractive with the intention of having maximum footfall, this time MC has launched a mobile app to guide visitors the exact locations of functions and programmes happening in the Rose Garden in all the three days of the function. People can easily gather detailed information about each variety of Rose after clicking a picture on their mobile phones through QR code displayed in each and every flower bed.

The Mayor said that people from the transgender community and special kids will be part of the Rose festival and they will be given special space and respect during all the events.

Sh. Jitender Yadav, IAS, Municipal Commissioner said that the MCC and tourism department will make all efforts to make this festival as International Rose Festival from next year. He said that to make this festival live Chopper rides and various attractive competitions have been included in this time. Keeping in view the interests of general public and visitors, this time free Wi-Fi zone has been created inside the Rose Garden during festival, he added.

During the evening Musical programme was organized in the main stage of Rose Garden, in which famous budding artists from Chandigarh enthralled the audience by various famous old bollywood songs in Old is Gold evening. Sh. Satya Pal Jain, Additional Solicitor General of India & former Member Parliament, UT, Chandigarh was the chief guest during the programme and Sh. Kanwarjeet Singh, Councillor, MC, Chandigarh and Sh. Ashok Kumar Gupta, DGM, OBC bank, Business branch was the Guest of Honours.
