Mayor advises student organizations for eco friendly campaign

 in student council elections

Chandigarh, September 5:2018- Sh. Davesh Moudgil, Mayor of Chandigarh today appealed to all student organizations of Punjab University and the Authorities of PU for eco-friendly campaign in student council elections and also avoid defacement of city.

In a letter written to Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, PU, the Mayor emphasized to avoid littering paper wastage, plastic stickers, flexes etc. for protection of environment and ensuring their contribution towards Swachh Bharat Mission.

The Mayor also appealed to all students to cast their vote as student elections are playing a vital role for strengthening democracy. He appealed them to achieve 100 percent voting this year for which the Mayor will give a certificate of appreciation to voter who casts his/her vote in student elections.

In addition to that the Mayor shared that a meeting with all the heads of departments of PU has been scheduled on 8th September at PU regarding their involvement in order to achieve the motto “Chandigarh banega Swachhata me No.1”. the Mayor said that the said goal can only be achieved by active participation of all the councilors, stakeholders, officers, officials, safai sainiks, general public and college students. The segregation of waste at source is necessary in order to save the environment and to meet other parameters of star rating protocol for garbage free cities, added the Mayor.
